“Bu sözler biz­im — Die Worte gehören uns”: A The­atre per­for­mance in Ger­man and Turkish

The “Badis­ches Staat­sthe­ater Karl­sruhe” presents: “Bu sözler biz­im – Die Worte gehören uns”, an award-win­ning play by Yade Yasemin Önder. Per­formed in both Ger­man and Turk­ish, the play tells the mov­ing sto­ry of sib­lings Lale and Lilo as they try to under­stand the changes affect­ing their family.

Why has the atmos­phere at home become so tense? What is hap­pen­ing to their moth­er? And why are more and more things dis­ap­pear­ing from their lives? As Lale search­es for answers, she dis­cov­ers how deeply mem­o­ry, lan­guage, and iden­ti­ty are connected.

Through poet­ic imagery and pow­er­ful sto­ry­telling, the audi­ence is tak­en on a jour­ney between Ger­many and Turkey. The play explores themes of fam­i­ly, belong­ing, remem­brance, and the pow­er of words.

Yade Yasemin Önder was nom­i­nat­ed for the Hei­del­berg Play­wright Award in 2020 and received the Exil Play­writ­ing Prize in 2024 for this work.

Turk­ish sur­titles are avail­able for fam­i­ly per­for­mances and school groups upon request.
