Integration courses are the most common language courses for people who are new to Germany. They help migrants become part of everyday life – at work, in society, and in the community.
Most courses end with the “German Test for Immigrants” (DTZ). After passing the exam, you can reach German level B1.
Who can take an integration course?
- New immigrants usually have the right to attend an integration course once.
- People who have lived in Germany for a longer time and EU citizens may also join, depending on available places.
- German citizens can be admitted if they do not have sufficient German language skills and need support with integration (if places are available).
👉 Integration courses are an important step to improve your German and better understand life in Germany.

Introductory Courses (EOK)
Initial Orientation Courses (EOK) are designed for people who are new to Germany and need basic guidance for everyday life. They provide first information about living in Germany, such as understanding the system, daily routines, and social norms.
These courses are especially intended for migrants who are still waiting for access to an integration course or who need support at an early stage.
They focus on:
- understanding daily life in Germany
- basic rules and orientation
- first language support (very basic German)
👉 EOK courses are usually short, flexible, and without exams.
Organizations offering EOK in Karlsruhe
The EOK is designed for people who are looking for an introductory and orientation program after arriving in the country.
An EOK consists of six modules, each comprising 50 class periods (45 minutes each), for a total of 300 class periods. Topics such as shopping, work, health, local orientation, and housing are covered, and the lessons are supplemented by field trips. These field trips also help participants get their bearings in their surroundings and immediately put what they have learned into practice.
Participation in the EOK is voluntary and free of charge.
