When people with refugee or migration backgrounds need medical care, effective communication between patients and healthcare professionals is essential. In hospitals, medical practices and psychotherapy settings, language barriers can lead to uncertainty, misunderstandings, incorrect diagnoses and inappropriate treatment.
To address this need, fka – Freundeskreis Asyl Karlsruhe e.V. offers a free qualification training for current and future community interpreters in healthcare. The training combines professional knowledge with practical interpreting exercises and prepares participants to work in medical and therapeutic settings.
Who is this training for?
The qualification is intended for people who:
- have a good command of German and at least one additional language.
- are interested in working as community interpreters in healthcare.
- would like to gain the knowledge and practical skills required for this role.
There is a particular need for interpreters in Russian, Ukrainian, Arabic, Turkish, Persian, Kurdish, Dari, Somali, Amharic, Chinese, Uyghur, English, French and other community languages.
Training Topics
Participants will work on:
- Working with trauma responses and psychosocial challenges
- Medical and psychological terminology
- The role, responsibilities and professional identity of community interpreters
- Interpreting techniques
- Communication in medical and therapeutic settings
- Practical triadic interpreting exercises
