State violence How right-wing extremist networks infiltrate the security authorities
Seda Başay-Yıldız and Heike Kleffner will read from the newly published anthology “Staatsgewalt” at the Generallandesarchiv Karlsruhe. Afterwards, participants can discuss the current threat to democracy with the two authors. Heike Kleffner writes about the contents of the book: Elite soldiers preparing for a “Day X”, police officers spreading right-wing extremist content in chat groups, public prosecutors and judges who want to eliminate democracy: These reports have become a sad part of everyday life. They show that the constitutional state has not yet succeeded in effectively arming itself against Reichsbürger, right-wing extremists and supporters of conspiracy theories, who are often to be found in its own institutions. Instead, right-wing networks continue to be dismissed as “isolated cases”.
Heike Kleffner is a journalist, author and managing director of the Bundesverband der Beratungsstellen für Betroffene rechter, rassistischer und antisemitischer Gewalt (VBRG e.V.).
Together with Tagesspiegel journalist Frank Jansen, she is in charge of the long-term research project “Victims of right-wing violence”.
Seda Başay-Yıldız is a lawyer in Frankfurt am Main. She represented the family of Enver Şimşek, the first murder victim of the National Socialist Underground. For her work and political commitment, she was awarded the Dachau Prize for Civil Courage, the Ludwig Beck Prize for Civil Courage and the Georg Elser Prize of the City of Munich. Başay-Yıldız has been exposed to the right-wing extremist threat series “NSU 2.0” for years since 2018.
