Coun­sel­ing for Women on FGM/C (Female Gen­i­tal Mutilation/Cutting)

Female Gen­i­tal Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) refers to the par­tial or total removal or injury of the female exter­nal gen­i­tal organs for non-med­ical rea­sons. FGM/C can have seri­ous phys­i­cal and psy­cho­log­i­cal con­se­quences, includ­ing chron­ic pain, infec­tions, uri­nary prob­lems, men­stru­al dif­fi­cul­ties, and com­pli­ca­tions dur­ing preg­nan­cy and childbirth.

The gyne­col­o­gy depart­ment at Städtis­ches Klinikum Karl­sruhe offers a safe and con­fi­den­tial coun­sel­ing ser­vice for women and girls who are affect­ed by or at risk of FGM/C.

We want to cre­ate a safe space where you will be treat­ed with respect, under­stand­ing, and med­ical exper­tise. Your per­son­al expe­ri­ences are tak­en seri­ous­ly. All con­sul­ta­tions are sub­ject to med­ical con­fi­den­tial­i­ty. Rel­a­tives and pro­fes­sion­als are also wel­come to seek infor­ma­tion and support.

Con­sul­ta­tion hours take place on the first and last Fri­day of every month from 11:00 am. to 12:00 pm.

• A med­ical refer­ral is help­ful but not required.

• We pro­vide you with med­ical and psy­choso­cial support.

Our inter­dis­ci­pli­nary team works close­ly with spe­cial­ized coun­sel­ing cen­ters as needed.
