Wel­come Guide Train­ing 2026: Sup­port Inter­na­tion­al New­com­ers in Karlsruhe

Inter­na­tion­al pro­fes­sion­als and stu­dents are an essen­tial part of the future of the Karl­sruhe Tech­nol­o­gy Region. While inte­gra­tion at work or uni­ver­si­ty often hap­pens quick­ly, set­tling into every­day life, build­ing friend­ships, and dis­cov­er­ing the region can be much more challenging.

To sup­port inter­na­tion­al new­com­ers dur­ing this impor­tant phase, the Wel­come Cen­ter TRK is look­ing for vol­un­teers to become Wel­come Guides. Wel­come Guides accom­pa­ny inter­na­tion­al pro­fes­sion­als or stu­dents for a lim­it­ed peri­od, help­ing them build social con­nec­tions, dis­cov­er local oppor­tu­ni­ties, and feel at home in the region.

The pro­gram is based on one-to-one tan­dem part­ner­ships and per­son­al exchange. For many new­com­ers, a new chap­ter begins in the Karl­sruhe Tech­nol­o­gy Region. How­ev­er, along­side work or stud­ies, many ques­tions often arise:

• How do you meet new people?
• What leisure activ­i­ties are available?
• How does a new place tru­ly become home?

To pre­pare par­tic­i­pants for this role, the Wel­come Cen­ter TRK offers a free train­ing pro­gram focused on inter­cul­tur­al com­mu­ni­ca­tion and mentoring. 

Would you like to become a Wel­come Guide yourself?

All cit­i­zens who feel at home in the Karl­sruhe Tech­nol­o­gy Region and are hap­py to share their expe­ri­ences and tips can become a Wel­come Guide. Per­son­al encoun­ters often play a key role in help­ing new­com­ers decide whether they want to stay in the region long-term. It does­n’t mat­ter whether you have lived in our region for a long time or have only recent­ly arrived here.

What are the frame­work con­di­tions of the tan­dem relationship?

• Dura­tion: 6 months
• Fre­quen­cy of con­tacts: At least once every two weeks
• The for­mat of the meet­ings is deter­mined by the tan­dem part­ners themselves
• The Wel­come Cen­ter TRK is always avail­able as a point of contact
