Living for Help in Karlsruhe

Monday
Wednesday
08:00 - 15:00 | Availability by phone

A shared living model based on support and community

Looking for affordable housing in Karlsruhe? Or do you have a room to offer and need some support in everyday life?

“Living for Help” (Wohnen für Hilfe) connects people who have available living space with those who are looking for accommodation and are willing to help in return.

“Living for Help” is now open to everyone looking for housing in Karlsruhe, not only students (e.g. trainees, professionals, retirees).
The goal is to reduce housing shortages, use living space more efficiently, and strengthen social connections. Project coordinators support and guide participants throughout the process.

How does it work?

Instead of paying rent, residents offer their time and support.
As a general guideline:
👉 1 hour of help per month for each square meter of living space

This support can include:

  • help with household tasks
  • grocery shopping
  • gardening
  • companionship and leisure activities

⚠️ Please note: This is not a care or nursing service.

Residents only pay utility costs (e.g. electricity, water, heating).

Who is it for?

Originally created for students, the project is now open to a wider group:

  • students
  • trainees (apprentices)
  • working professionals
  • retirees
  • anyone looking for housing and willing to get involved

People offering housing may include:

  • older adults
  • families
  • people with disabilities
  • individuals who need support in daily life
