Reading and discussion with Berlin author and journalist Sascha Lübbe Rescheduled event from the International Weeks Against Racism
At the bottom of the system – how migrant workers secure our prosperity Berlin-based author and journalist Sascha Lübbe reads from his gripping non-fiction book “At the bottom of the system – how migrant workers secure our prosperity” and questions what kind of world we actually want to live in.
He gets up close and personal with individual life stories and talks to people who work in the construction industry, in slaughterhouses, and in transportation. In doing so, he reveals the economic, political, and social conditions that enable precarious employment and how social justice has been increasingly eroded in recent years.
He discusses the topic “Prosperity through fear and exploitation: How did it come to this?” with Meri Uhlig, Integration Commissioner in Karlsruhe. Sascha Lübbe works in Berlin. His main topics are migration, integration, and social inequality.
Ganz unten im System
His book “Ganz unten im System” (At the Bottom of the System) was nominated for the NDR Non-Fiction Prize 2024. He himself has been nominated for the German Reporter Prize, the German Journalism Prize, and the Alternative Media Prize. His articles appear in Zeit Online, taz, NZZ, Welt am Sonntag, stern.de, and other publications.
The Office for Integration The integration officer and her team aim to promote equal participation for all people in Karlsruhe, social harmony, and good coexistence in the city. Part of their task is to expose social inequality, including the precarious working conditions of immigrants.
