Opening: Unfamiliar Ceilings
Amna Elamin, visual storyteller
Language: English
»Unfamiliar Ceilings« is Amna Elamin’s narrative of a personal journey—an uprooting caused by war. The work follows the quiet, often invisible traces that conflicts leave on our lives and change our understanding of home. We cordially invite you to the opening!
Under unfamiliar ceilings, the world contracts and expands again – permeated by memory, fear, and fragile hope. The installation work reminds us of what war takes from us: the certainty of security, the familiarity of those spaces that were sacred to us, and the feeling of belonging that we believed to be certain. It speaks of departure and arrival, of paths through uncertainty, and of the long, inner work of carving out a new existence. This reflection reveals resilience, as well as the weight of memory and the tireless search for closeness and security in a world that has become foreign.
Amna Elamin is a visual storyteller and creative researcher. In her work, she explores political inequalities, collective memory, and the ethical dimensions of human experience. She studied information technology and mathematics at the University of Khartoum in Sudan and has since combined analytical precision with interdisciplinary perspectives. At the intersection of visual journalism, digital art, and social engagement, she develops a practice that combines critical reflection with creative power.
